Tornado

We saw 1/2 of a tornado two days ago. About 2 miles from the house, a funnel cloud started coming out of the clouds nearly 2/3 of the way to the ground. It just dissipated and went back up into the clouds and the storm passed over us, just pelting us with hail golfball-sized hail. We ate dinner in the storm shelter. Fun times in Kansas!
(It looked similar to this picture, but the funnel was darker)

Paola is starting to walk

Since many English speaking people have trouble pronouncing Paola's name we have an alternative for you. We have taken to calling her Pabla as a nickname. That should be easier to pronounce.

She took 8 steps a few days ago. We'll post pics once we have internet hooked up at the new house.

Our phone should be connected today - (620) 225-0144 - but we won't be home until after Memorial day holiday.

Gabby and Suzy both won prizes for Accelerated Reader at school. Gabby won 1st place in her grade and the entire school with 400.3 points. Suzy was first place in her grade and 3rd in the school with 175 points. The second place reader for the school got 183 points, so Gabby annihilated the competition.

When Gabby toured the school she'll be attending for 5th grade, she saw that one of the 5th grade students read 499 points worth of AR books, so she has made 500 points her new goal.

We almost have everything moved into the new home - just one more trailer load. Melca is excited about being the Queen of the home again. Having her parents live with us was a blessing, but also a challenge.

Last post for the evening

Yesterday was the last official track meet for the girls - the Junior Olympics is in 2 weeks. Seattle blazed by the competition and pulled in three blue first place ribbons - high jump, 75, and relay. Addison again booted her way into 1st place in the ball kick, 1st in the relay and third in the 75.

Have a safe memorial day weekend....we will be off to the lake tomorrow (Hollan's bday) for the long weekend. Hope you all enjoy yours.

Love,
Kim

HI

An Artist's free expression

Here are Addison and her friend Kelsey and paint...three things that you never want to combine...or leave unattended. The canvas they originally started out with, paper, turned into the driveway and then to each other's skin.

Too bad they weren't using the washable paint......................................

Mohawk whim

Nairne and a few of his buddies performed in the talent show - they each shot 5 baskets from the free throw line....and yes that is a mohawk on the top of Nairne's head - he had it for about 5 days and then shaved it off...
The whims of a teenage boy....

Sweet Relief

Here is Hollan relaxing, watching the talent show after his Baptismal interview with the Bishop.
He was very relieved to have it over with and to find out the Bishop didn't ask him to recite all 13 Articles of Faith...like his mom said he would!

Give my regards to Broadway

Here is Seattle playing the role of 'Gaston' for the combined YM/YW activity. She and her beehive class lip synced to the Beauty and Beast song about "Gaston". She was a hit! Notice the eyebrows, moustache and the neck/chest hair.
After her performance, she immediately removed all the makeup - the unibrow was making her feel self-conscious.

Ow!

That looks ugly, poor Hollan. Simon hurt his knee, strained a ligament running backwards in soccer, so he had to miss the first game of his baseball team's playoff. He wanted to go watch anyhow, so we pulled him out of scouts early (after having piano lessons), made it there with the score tied 3-3 after two & the team came & rallied around him in between each inning, dedicated the game to Simon & went & scored the maximum 6 runs each of the next 3 innings to win going away, 21-5. He had to leave early in the last inning to attend James' Seminary Graduation, but found out later the team gave him the game ball, so he was excited!

OUCH!!

Here is one of the injuries Hollan sustained when he went tumbling into the gravel as he was trying to outrun the neighbor's dog. He trashed his side, elbow, hands and knees. I would of loved to been able to see how he landed - he did a number on himself.

This occurred right before he was to leave with Mike and Nairne to go to the Father and Son campout (around 4:30 pm). He feared his injuries were too severe to go....until his mother said he would be showering and heading off to bed if he stayed home. Somehow he mustered up enough courage and strength from within to tolerate the excruciating physical pain he sustained and forge ahead. (Mike called later from the campsite and said Hollan was cruising around, having a blast - nothing like a little entertainment to take your mind off your pain)
